Turkey keeps investors happy
Obelisk Private Finance 7 August 2008
The government's temporary ban on the issue of title deeds (Tapu) to foreigners has been lifted. Now that mortgages are more readily available in Turkey - the essential elements for overseas property investors are firmly in place.
Recent survey results published by the Daily Telegraph and undertaken by independent travel group, Cooperative Travel, show that Turkey has pushed Spain from its top position as favourite holiday location for Brits, partly because of the over-valued euro, but also because the cost of living is a fraction of what it is in the UK.

Famagusta, North Cyprus could become a property hotspot
Homes & Property 16 July 2008
Former Cypriot tourist centre Famagusta is set to become a prime property investment hotspot if reunification talks are successful.
The area, which netted 95% of Cyprus’s tourism before the 1974 Turkish invasion, should see immediate price rises of 10% upon reunification. “The island’s Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders met two weeks ago to make plans to start peace talks in the autumn,” said IPG director Gerraint Thomas. “The area will see certainly excellent capital appreciation if it comes off.”
Land values in this region, typically shunned by the island’s Greek Cypriot population for its proximity to the Turkish-Cypriot, are significantly cheaper than on the rest of the southern part of the island. The region’s forecast profits are already attracting sports investors - former Liverpool striker Ian Rush has recently launched a Resort & Spa in Kapparis with Cypriot developers. “Rental returns can reach up to 8% in high season, with capital appreciation hitting between 10 and 15%” said Mr Rush of his own investment unit.
Swansea footballer Kristian O’Leary has also recently bought a new home near Famagusta. “Cyprus offers the best opportunities for buyers looking for an alternative to the Spanish Costas, where in some cases prices have dropped dramatically. The island is changing its image, and its main airport, Larnaca is being extended, so rental yields should be excellent.”
